Restoration News Spring 2010
Restoring the Historic Landscape of Towneley
Projects for Spring 2010 include the following:
Hanbrig Entrance Improvements - stone paving, new planting and landscape restoration providing a more attractive gateway to the historic parkland
Tree Works - thinning, removals and pruning will be taking place along Towneley Holmes Road to improve the landscape and maintain healthy trees in the appropriate locations.
Cycleway Extended - along Towneley Holmes Road as part of the Unity College access improvements.
Saturday Shuttle Bus - hop on bus no 3 from Burnley Bus station, on the hour, every hour between 8.00am - 6.00pm, stopping at the bus stops in the Hall car park, Riverside car park & at Towneley Garden Centre and 'Hail & Ride' within the park.
Historic Audio Tour - available as a podcast from www.visitburnley.gov.uk or by visiting the Hall shop; experience the past as you follow a 4 mile walk around Towneley or bring your own 'Tramper' and ride around in comfort!
Entrance Signage - new signs for Barwise car park, Causeway End (18 Hole Golf) & 9 Hole Golf
Revised Management Plan for Towneley - following workshops in November look out for the new 5 year plan
Monks Well - the site of this historic folly will be sensitively managed to allow the public access and examine the past history of this partially reconstructed structure
Fencing to Bird Reserve - the remains of the green chain-link fencing will be removed and the planting of a hedgerow will be continued by the Forest of Burnley volunteers
Heritage Tea Party & Celebration June 2010 - plans are underway for events to celebrate the completion of the Heritage Restoration work on 11th - 13th June, look out for more details
